Evgeny Samoilov, Honored Artist of Russia, conductor of the Novaya Opera Theatre.
Upon graduation from the St. Petersburg State Conservatory with degrees in choral and symphony conducting in 1978, he worked as a guest conductor of symphony orchestras in many cities of Russia, Moldavia, and Turkey. He was a conductor of the Rostov-on-Don Philharmonic Orchestra and the Moscow State Maly Symphony Orchestra.
He has been with the Novaya Opera since 1993. Here he acts as music director and conductor of Verdi’s I Due Foscari and Nabucco, Rubinstein’s The Demon, Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Snow Maiden.
He also conducts Bellini's Norma, Verdi’s Rigoletto and Il Trovatore, Wagner's Lohengrin, Strauss' Salome, Tchaikovsky's Iolanta, Borodin's Prince Igor, the concerts Opera@Jazz, “Rossini”, “Viva Verdi!”, “Richard Wagner”, the following ballets: Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sheherazade, Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, Adam’s Giselle, Ravel’s Boléro (joint production with the Imperial Russian Ballet).
In 1997, Evgeny Samoilov acted as music director of Yuri Lyubimov’s production of The Queen of Spades by Tchaikovsky. In 2005, he conducted the concert dedicated to the 80th birthday of Mikis Theodorakis.
Evgeny Samoilov has recorded two CDs of Myaskovsky’s compositions; he also took part in the recording of the supplement to Astafiev and Kolobov’s book “Concord” and CDs “Chorus of the Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow” and “Soloists of the Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow”. In 2005-2009 he acted as artistic director and conductor of the Omsk Academic Symphony Orchestra.
