The Orchestra of the Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow is a versatile team. The important part assigned to the Orchestra has to do with the wide-ranging artistic interests of the theatre’s founder Evgeny Kolobov and the acting conductors of the theatre – Eri Klas (chief conductor of the theatre), Anatoly Gus, Evgeny Samoilov, Sergey Lysenko, Dmitry Volosnikov, Felix Korobov, Valery Kritskov, and Nikolay Sokolov.


In addition to playing for the Novaya Opera, the Orchestra appears frequently on the concert platform, performing symphony programmes in the best concert halls of Russia, such as the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, the St.Petersburg Philharmonic, to mention a few. Its symphony repertoire is large and diversified, comprising symphonies and symphonic compositions by Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Raсhmaninov, Beethoven, Mozart, Stravinsky, Hindemith, Honegger, Chopin, Lalo, etc. The Orchestra performs with the outstanding musicians among those such conductors as Yury Temirkanov and Gintaras Rinkevičius, such instrumentalists as Eliso Virsalasdze and Nikolay Petrov (piano), Natalya Gutman (cello), singers – Jose Cura, Marius Frangulis, Dmitry Hvorostovsky, Lyubov Kazarnovskaya to mention a few.


The Orchestra of the Novaya Opera Theatre collaborates with ballet companies. It has joint productions with the Imperial Russian Ballet, Kasatkina and Vasilöv Classical Ballet Theatre. The Orchestra takes part in the Annual Ballet Festival in Mikkeli, Finland (with the Imperial Russian Ballet) and in summer ballet festivals in Moscow. It performs with ballet stars including Farukh Ruzimatov, Yulia Makhalina, Anasatasia Volochkova. The Novaya Opera has productions staged by such choreographers as Vladimir Vasiliev (O Mozart! Mozart…) and Alla Sigalova (La Traviata by G.Verdi). 


The Orchestra toured in Spain and Portugal in 1992, and in Finland and Turkey (with the Imperial Russian Ballet) in 2000. It took part in the Los Angeles Opera Company's performances of Mozart's Don Giovanni and Strauss' Salome at the Savonlinna Opera Festival in Finland in 2001. It toured in Turkey, Finland, Singapore, and Thailand with the Imperial Russian Ballet. The Novaya Opera Orchestra performed in the concert dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Greek composer Mikis Theodarakis in Greece and Cyprus in 2005.
