Dedicated to Evgeny Kolobov
V International Festival

EPIPHANY WEEK AT NOVAYA OPERA
January 11 - 31, 2009

The 5th International Festival “Epiphany Week at Novaya Opera” presented the Novaya Opera’s best productions featuring world opera stars: conductors Eri Klas, Jan Latham-Koenig and Antonino Fogliani, singers Fernando Portari (tenor), Michael Hendrick (tenor), Giovanni Meoni (baritone); Borodin’s Prince Igor in concert, Prokofiev’s cantata Alexander Nevsky and soundtrack to the film Ivan the Terrible with a showing of excerpts from Eisenstein’s films. By tradition, the festival performances included Romances by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Sergey Rachmaninov in Kolobov’s orchestration, as well as the concert programme Tribute to Evgeny Kolobov consisting of vocal chamber music in the Maestro’s musical version. The Festival ended with a Viva Puccini! concert dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Puccini’s birth, featuring Messa di Gloria and a premiere of the comic opera Gianni Schicchi.
